TUSCAN VILLA IN THE ROCKIES

Loews Giorgio Hotel
Denver, Colorado
1986

Rising eleven stories near the fashionable Cherry Creek district and the State Capitol, this A-List hotel designed by Janise Cooper has been described as a “European-styled jewel.” Cooper brought the neoclassical-influenced décor to life with lush, easy-to-touch fabrics such as velvet and satin, high ceilings with hand detailing, marble, and deep mahogany throughout the facility. In the Tuscany Restaurant and Tuscany Bar and Lounge — hugely popular among hotel guests and locals alike — Cooper created a sophisticated yet intimate setting with fireplaces, subdued lighting, faux bois hand detailing, and wall murals in the Italian neoclassical style. Guest rooms offer a country villa atmosphere with antique style lavatory furniture, and sponged and faux-marble moldings and wallcoverings. This project was one of the first to embellish all surfaces with “faux finish” trompe l’oeil throughout.
